SuperSport United exacted revenge on Golden Arrows for their cup defeat earlier this month by beating their opponents 3-1 in a 2021/22 DStv Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.
Goals from Bafana Bafana duo Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule, and second-half substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza steered Matsatsantsa to all three points and top of the league standings ahead of today’s remaining fixtures.
Siphamandla Sabelo scored a late consolation goal for Abafana Bes’thende from the penalty spot.

Kaizer Chiefs have put their first win on the board in the DStv Premiership after they defeated Baroka FC 2-1 at the FNB Stadium, though it was an unnecessarily nervy one for the Soweto giants.
For approximately an hour the Amakhosi put on a showcase of attacking football and created chances at will – better finishing would have seen the game wrapped up inside the first 45 minutes. Bakgaga ba ga Mphahlele hung on by their fingernails before coming on strong in the final third of the game, though they were ultimately unable to claim a share of the spoils.
Chiefs should have taken the lead inside the opening 60 seconds, with a rash mistake from Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke allowing Bernard Parker a glaring chance, but his effort was heroically blocked by defender Vusi Sibiya.
Yet the Amakhosi did not have long to wait before they drew first blood: a crisp ninth-minute passing move put Njabulo Blom free down the right flank and his low cross was confidently turned home by Khama Billiat for 1-0.
Bakgaga almost levelled the game on 16 minutes, with Tshepo Mokhabi firing an out-swinging effort toward goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma’s right-hand upright, but Richard Mbulu got his head on the ball and redirected it onto the crossbar.
Chiefs doubled their lead on 27 minutes through an excellent header from Daniel Cardoso. The defender stooped to meet Sifiso Hlanti’s cross from the left flank and expertly looped it up and beyond the reach of Masuluke to make it 2-0.

Sekhukhune United registered their first ever win in the DStv Premiership when they defeated Maritzburg United 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The hero for Babina Noko was Nigerian striker Chibuike Ohizu, who scored a first-half brace to see the visitors to victory. The Team of Choice, meanwhile, have now lost back-to-back matches and will be having an eerie feeling of deja vu: last season they lost their first five matches on the bounce and ended up in a relegation scrap until almost the end of the campaign.

Orlando Pirates’ slow start to the 2021-22 season continued on Tuesday evening when they were held to a 0-0 draw in a DStv Premiership match by newcomers Marumo Gallants.
The result at Peter Mokaba Stadium means the Buccaneers have now gone three competitive matches without a win at the start of the new campaign, with this stalemate following a defeat to Swallows FC in the MTN8 quarterfinals and a 2-2 draw in their league opener at home to Stellenbosch FC this past weekend.
As for Gallants, who took over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila’s franchise, the draw earned them a first ever point in the top-flight league after losing to Baroka FC in their opener.
