The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have announced that the domestic transfer window will officially close at the end of the month with some clubs still looking to secure new signings.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PSL confirmed that the transfer window will shut down at midnight on 31 August 2021.
The transfer window had initially opened on 1 July 2021.
Here are Diski101’s top five signings to look out for next season:
1 – Keagan Dolly
Dolly had been with the French club for a number of seasons having joined from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017.
The 28-year-old, who will wear the number 10 jersey, has signed a three-year deal with Chiefs, which will see him play for Amakhosi until 2024/25 season.
He will reunite with Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro after playing with them at Sundowns. His signing has excited a number of football fans, with the attacking midfielder expected to bring a new dimension to Chiefs and the domestic league in general.
The 28-year-old has represented Bafana Bafana, appearing 19 times in national colours. He has already started his training with Amakhosi ahead of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.
2 – Kwanda Mngonyama
Just days after the transfer window opened, Orlando Pirates announced the signing of four new players including versatile defender Kwanda Mngonyama.
Mngonyama has signed a two-year deal with Pirates after he parted ways with Maritzburg United upon the end of the 2021/22 season.
In his first interview with the Soweto giants, the 27-year-old was questioned on his preferred position to which he said: ” It’s definitely centre-back. I sometimes slot in at right-back, as well as the centre of the midfield, but centre-back is where I’m most comfortable. Even with that said, I’m always happy to play in whichever position the coach places me in, as long as it benefits the team.”
He has already begun training with his new teammates.
3 – Thabiso Kutumela
Mamelodi Sundowns captured the signature of Thabiso Kutumela following his impressive 2020/21 season at Maritzburg United.
Kutumela netted 12 goals in the DStv Premiership, just three short of his new teammate Peter Shalulile, helping Maritzburg United survive the drop down to the GladAfrica Championship.
The forward was also nominated for the DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and the PSL Footballer of the Season, in which he lost both awards to Shalulile.
He put pen to paper, tying himself to Masandawana on a five-year deal. The 28-year-old was the fifth player to join the Brazilians after Neo Maema, Devine Lunga, Pavol Safranko and Grant Kekana.
4 – Njabulo Ngcobo
Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns to the signing of defender Njabulo Ngcobo from Swallows FC. The Mthwalume-born player penned a three-year contract with Amakhosi and he will wear number 27 jersey.
Ngcobo arrival at Naturena has been seen as a move to address Amakhosi’s defensive woes after the Soweto giant conceded more than 30 goals last season.
The 27-year-old showed his defensive capabilities at the Dube Birds, where his displays earned him a nomination for DStv Premiership Defender of the Season.
5 – Brandon Petersen
New Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen showed what he is capable of during the Carling Black Label Cup penalty shootout against Orlando Pirates this past weekend.
Petersen, who signed for Chiefs last month, made two crucial to help Amakhosi lift the cup.
The 26-year-old had spent the last campaign training with Chiefs and familiarising himself with set-up in Naturena. The former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper has signed a three-year contract and he will wear the number 16 jersey.
