Manqoba Mngqithi’s agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that the coach’s contract with the DStv Premiership champions is set to expire at the end of the season.
Makaab, however, says Sundowns have an option to extend the former Golden Arrows coach’s contract.
Mngqithi was demoted from co-head coach to senior coach in October, with Rulani Mokwena named the sole head coach.
Following his demotion, Mngqithi has been linked with several DStv Premiership clubs, with AmaZulu the latest side linked with his services.
However, Makaab insists that Mngqithi remains fully committed to Sundowns and their targets for the rest of the campaign.
“There have been so many stories about clubs engaging with us about his services,” he said on Gagasi FM.
“These things are going to come to the surface because he is a highly-talented football coach, very experienced and very knowledgeable, and has played such a pivotal role in Mamelodi Sundowns’ success over the years.
“So there is a lot of speculation about his future, particularly since Rulani Mokwena has been appointed as head coach and the co-coaching system has been abolished.
“The truth is that Manqoba is completely committed to Sundowns. He is a true professional, he’s working as hard as has in the past. He’s supporting the coach 100%. Manqoba and myself speak on a regular basis.
“Mamelodi Sundowns have an option to renew his contract. That option is only renewable in May, so by the end of May they’ve got to make that decision.
“We’ve started discussions with Sundowns about Manqoba’s future and I’ve spoken to Manqoba about it – and to be honest, his entire focus is on Mamelodi Sundowns.
“They’ve won the PSL, they’re in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, they are well on their way in the Nedbank Cup.”
