Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids slammed the referee following his side’s loss against Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend.
This comes after the Team of Choice was edged 3-2 by Amakhosi in a DStv Premiership match played at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.
Arthur Zwane’s side raced into a two goal lead as Keagan Dolly opened the scoring on five minutes before Christian Saile bagged a second after 10 minutes.
However, a spirited fightback from the Team of Choice saw Rafiq De Goede halve the deficit on 20 minutes and Amadou Soukouna restored parity with a beautiful free-kick four minutes before halftime.
The Glamour Boys would not be denied though, as Yusuf Maart fired them back in front from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to secure all three points.
Following the defeat, Davids accused the referee of being a “supporter”.
“I just wanted to say maybe a [Chiefs] supporter. Maybe a supporter,” said Davids of the referee.
Davids then went on to analyse the game, saying his team makes too many mistakes in crucial moments of the game.
“It’s a critical phase of the game, we started very good. On the front foot, creating opportunities and then a counter. Ok, the goalkeeper slips – can happen,” he continued.
“But these errors [are] what’s costing us. The fight, the performance, you can’t fault the players, they gave their all.
“But yeah, slip in the box on one side, slip in the box other side, just be neutral.”
When asked whether he’s had a chance to relook at the penalty incident, Davids said; “No, I don’t want to talk about [it].”
The result leaves Maritzburg in 15th spot, just one point above bottom-placed Marumo Gallants with seven games left before the end of the season.
