Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has explained why fan-favourite Itumeleng Khune has not yet feature for Amakhosi this season.
Some Chiefs fans have been calling for Zwane to include Khune in his matchday squads especially after some shaky displays from fellow keepers Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Peterson.
Zwane, however, says Khune has done well at training, but he is not ready to play for Chiefs yet.
“I think Itu has been doing well at training, just like all the goalkeepers, obviously he needed to be at a certain level for him to be ready to play,” Zwane told reporters after Saturday’s game against Richards Bay FC, which Chiefs won 1-0.
“The other keepers are ahead of him in terms of fitness levels and state of readiness. He’s been working very hard on and off the field. He’s got his own personal trainer, which is something we encourage…it shows discipline and that he takes his career very, very seriously.
“We’re creating competition within the squad. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past or what you can do now. What is very key is who can help the team now,” added Zwane.
