Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi admits that his side’s finishing was not good enough in Wednesday’s goalless 0-0 draw against Cape Town City at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
“You always feel sad when the team performs the way they performed, especially for the players. I thought it was a dominant performance from our team,” Ncikazi told SuperSport TV after the game.
“We created the chances, especially in the first half, but even in the second half when we were not as sharp.
“The team deserved better, but I can’t blame the players for the performance. We totally dominated the match, created the chances but the ball could not just go into the net.”
“I thought we had the numerical advantage and the entries in the final third,” he said. “We had the right movements and maybe the final one of putting the ball in the net did not happen. At least the process towards creating the chances is not a big worry because it becomes a big problem if we don’t enter the final third.
“More than just dominating possession I also thought we created the better chances and at times I thought there were tap-ins but then the ball wouldn’t go in. So, it is two points dropped, and let us go into the next match with the right mentality and then take it from there,” concluded Ncikazi.
Ncikazi says that while it is welcome that they have a number of players back from injury, some are not yet at the rwquir3ed fitness level.
“The Achilles heel of our team is that a lot of players have just come back. [Zakhele] Lepasa has been injured. Gaba [Gabadinho Mhango] has been out for whatever reason, and we only have all of them now. How they came back has meant they are all not at the same level of fitness.”
