Marumo Gallants and Cape Town City drew 0-0 in the DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The draw saw Bahlabane Ba Ntwa and the Citizens remain 11th and 10th respectively on the league standings following a game which was dominated by the visitors without scoring.
The Citizens saw most of the ball in the opening stages of the match, with Mduduzi Mdantsane and Bradley Ralani keeping the Bahlabane Ba Ntwa’s defence busy with their sharp movements.
However, the visitors could not create clear-cut chances with the Gallants defence, which was marshaled by Lehlohonolo Nonyane, doing well to contain the speedy attackers.
The score was 0-0 during the halftime following a first-half which saw City dominate possession, but they couldn’t seriously test Washington Arubi in the hosts’ goal-posts.
The Citizens continued to control the game after the restart with Ralani firing over the crossbar from a good position after being set up by Craig Martin on the hour-mark.
A few minutes later, Lakay’s volleyed effort went through a few Gallants defenders, but the ball went inches wide of Arubi’s far post as City pushed for the opening goal.
Junior Sede Dion, Katlego Otladisa, Thato Khiba, and Ndivhuwo Ravhuhali were introduced by coach Dan Malesela in the 70th minute as Gallants looked to regain control of the game and break the deadlock.
However, neither side was able to create the clear-cut chances required to win the match in the closing stages, and the encounter ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
