Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in a 2021/22 DStv Premiership clash at the Danie Craven Stadium on Wednesday.
Deon Hotto played a pivotal role in leading the Buccaneers to victory as they moved up to seventh on the league standings. Defeat leaves Stellies in second, six point adrift of Mamelodi Sundowns who were held to a 2-2 draw by SuperSport United.
Pirates opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Collins Makgaka who volleyed home from close range after being teed up by Hotto.
Scorer turned provider two minutes later as Hotto found the back of the net to hand the visitors a comfortable lead at the interval.
Hotto completed his brace three minutes after the interval following neat interplay in-and-around the penalty area.
Stellies never gave up, but when Junior Mendieta hit the woodwork for the second time on the night in the 85th minute it was clear that it just wouldn’t be the Maroons’ night as Pirates duly ended the Cape club’s 15-match unbeaten run.
