Marumo Gallants were held to a 0-0 draw by Maritzburg United in a 2021/22 DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The result saw Bahlabane Ba Ntwa and the Team of Choice remain 16th and 11th respectively on the league standings, following the goalless stalemate in Polokwane.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa started the match brightly having recorded their first ever win in the top-flight when they defeated SuperSport United 2-1 on Saturday.
However, Gallants struggled to create clear cut chances for their targetman, Junior Sede Dion, with possession being given away cheaply in the final third.
Maritzburg also found it difficult to cut open the hosts’ tight defence and the score was 0-0 at the halftime break following a relatively quiet first-half.
The Team of Choice came out rejuvenated following their halftime team talk with coach Ernst Middendorp, but they suffered a blow when they were reduced to 10 players.
Zukile Kewuti was the Maritzburg player who was shown a red card in the 49th minute after he had received his second yellow card of the game.
With his side enjoying a numerical superiority over the visitors, Gallants head coach Dan Maselela introduced Lerato Lamola, who scored the winning goal against SuperSport.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute, but Thabo Mnyamane was denied by Maritzburg’s German shot-stopper Marcel Engelhardt from the spot-kick.
Ultimately, the match ended in a 0-0 draw with ten-man Maritzburg containing Gallants in the latter stages of the game.
