Shane Duffy and Neal Maupay scored first-half goals as Brighton & Hove Albion beat Watford 2-0 at Amex Stadium to claim victories from their opening two matches of a top-flight season for the first time.
Having beaten Burnley last weekend, Brighton started quickly, Duffy rising highest to meet Pascal Gross’s 10th-minute corner and head in off the bar.
They doubled their lead four minutes before half-time when Yves Bissouma won back possession and set up Maupay to score his second goal of the season.
But an injury led to Maupay being replaced at half-time by Aaron Connolly, who fired a close-range chance wide shortly after coming on.
Watford grew into the match after the break. Tom Cleverley forced a smart save from Robert Sanchez while substitute Troy Deeney headed narrowly wide late on.
But Brighton held on to their clean sheet, much to the delight of their returning home fans.
