Manchester City will look to move one step closer to clinching the English Premier League title for the third consecutive season when they take on West Ham United at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
City lost their top spot to Arsenal, who beat Chelsea 3-1 in a London derby on Tuesday, but they can retain their position with a win against West Ham.
The Citizens, who have won their last six meetings with the Hammers at the Etihad, currently boast the best home record in the Premier League having accumulated 43 points from a possible 48 available, while they have won each of their last 24 top-flight games played on a Wednesday – the longest winning run by any team on a specific day in the division’s history.
Heading into May and fighting for three trophies has ignited talk of a potential ‘Treble’ by Pep Guardiola’s side.
City, who are now favourites to win the Premier League title, have a Champions League semi-final with current holders Real Madrid and an FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley to come later this month.
However, star midfielder De Bruyne says the players are not discussing the possibility, with the focus remaining on the immediate games ahead, beginning with the Hammers.
“I feel like there is a lot of talk outside, but I don’t feel like in the team you talk about it a lot,” De Bruyne said.
“I don’t think, with the programme that we have, we are able to talk about all of these things and sometimes you just want to be 100 per cent on the next game.
“We have games every three days and you just want to do your job. We understand the situation, but I don’t think it changes the group which is good.”
The Hammers on the other hand will hope to bounce back following a 4-3 defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.
Manager David Moyes is expecting a tough game against City, but is hoping that they can get a good result at Etihad.
“We know we are playing a very good team. We have been to the Etihad a lot and it has been hard to win. But we have given them some really good games when we have played them, and the games have been really close. I am hoping we can put up another good show,” said Moyes
