Pele will spend Christmas in hospital as he continues his battle against cancer.
The former Brazil striker has been undergoing treatment in the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo and his daughter Kely Nascimento revealed on social media that the 82-year-old will be in hospital for Christmas.
She wrote in a post on Instagram: “Our Christmas at home has been suspended.
“We decided with the doctors that, for various reasons, it would be better for us to stay here with all the care that this new family at Einstein gives us. Your love for him, his stories and his prayers are a huge comfort because we know we are not alone.”
The footballing world rallied behind Pele when his condition worsened during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, with Brazil players holding up a banner in tribute to him after their 4-0 win over Korea Republic in the last 16.
Pele, 82, remains the only man to have won three FIFA World Cup™ titles, helping inspire Brazil to lift the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
