Magpies claim second straight league win after coming from behind to defeat Everton
Kieran Trippier’s superb free-kick helped Newcastle United claim a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Everton which moves the Magpies out of the bottom three.
Despite losing Demarai Gray and Yerry Mina to injury, Everton went ahead on 36 minutes when Mason Holgate’s effort inside a crowded area was diverted in by Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles.
A reverse of fortune followed a minute later when Lascelles’ header off the crossbar went in off Holgate to make the score 1-1.
Newcastle assumed control of the match and took the lead on 56 minutes when Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross was tapped in by Ryan Fraser.
The hosts sealed their win with 10 minutes remaining through Trippier’s perfect direct free-kick.
A fourth match without defeat takes Newcastle up to 17th with 18 points, one place and one point below Everton who have played one match fewer.
