A 42nd minute goal from Ismail Abdullatif at King Abdullah II Stadium separated the two sides as the 2008 AFC Cup champions opened this year’s campaign in style.
Abu Abed said his side performed well overall but some minor mistakes along with lapses in concentration resulted in defeat for the Jordan side.
“Congratulations to Muharraq for the victory tonight,” said Abu Abed. “We had an excellent match but we lost concentration at some stages which cost us the tie.”
“Football, at the end of the day, is about goals and we squandered many chances in the first half and the outcome could have been different had we converted them.
“However, we still have a chance and hopefully, we can get results in the remaining matches,” concluded the former Jordan national team midfielder.
Al Salt next play Lebanon’s Al Ansar, who defeated Balata Center of Palestine 2-0 in their opener, on Monday.

Muharraq head coach Isa Al Hamdani was happy that his side got their campaign off to a winning start.
“We didn’t have a good performance, especially in the first half,” said Al Hamdani. “The most important thing is that we managed to get the victory – especially with the current format of the competition.”
“Our concentration now will shift to the next match and hopefully we can get the three points against Balata Center,” he said.
