In the first round, Kaizer Chiefs defeated Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto 1-0 on aggregate.
They were drawn in Group C with Wydad, Horoya and Petro de Luanda. Kaizer Chiefs finished the group in second place with 9 points having won two games, drawn three and lost one.
