Rwanda defeated Central African Republic 2-0 in a warm-up match at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday.
Abdul Rwatubyaye who plays for Macedonia’s Shkupi FK scored the second goal after 75 minutes, after APR striker Jacques Tuyisenge put Amavubi ahead in the 40th minute.
Tuyisenge earlier missed a penalty for hosts Rwanda after 6 minutes. But the skipper made amends by scoring his side’s second goal.
Seven Rwandan players made their debut in the game, including goalkeeper Clement Buhake, midfielders Samuel Gullutte, Alain Kwitota and Blaise Ishimwe, defenders Ngwabije and Denis Rukundo and striker Yves Mugunga.
Amavubi will play a second warm up game against Central African Republic on Monday, also at Amahoro Stadium.
Both sides are using the matches to prepare for their respective preparations for the FIFA World Cup, Qatar 2022 qualifiers.
The group campaign of next year’s Qatar based World Cup gets underway in September. Rwanda are in Group E alongside regional neighbours Uganda, Kenya, and Mali. Meanwhile Central African Republicplay in Group C with Nigeria, Cape Verde and Liberia.
Coach Vincent Mashami’s side will start their quest for a first World Cup appearance against Mali before hosting Kenya and Uganda in the next two fixtures respectively.
Only the group’s top team is guaranteed a spot into the final phase of the qualifiers.
