Didier Drogba, Sory Diabaté and Idriss Diallo gathered on the same platform – an image that was least expected considering the context. After the high tensions that shook the land of Eburnie, the three candidates for the next election for the presidency of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) have decided to some the peace pipe.
The Radisson Blu hotel in Abidjan-Port-Bouet hosted on Tuesday, 01 June 2021 the launch ceremony of the “Balle à terre” concept. An initiative of Frédéric Kouadio, communications director of the Normalization Committee of the Ivorian Football Federation (CN-FIF) and Anne Marie N’Guessan, journalist at Radio Télévision Ivoirienne – the initiate has received the blessings of the Chairperson of the CN- FIF, Mrs. Mariam Dao Gabala.
Literally meaning “ball on the ground”, the launch and concept was about bringing together the three candidates who are vying for the FIF presidency. The period leading to the elections has affected relations between the major actors of Ivorian football.
The initiative is seen as an important step towards the path of unification and consensus, as requested by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
During his visit to Côte d’Ivoire last May, the CAF President said: “The essential message for me is that of unity. We support unity … We need football to go higher, and no group will do it alone. ”
After this new intervention, the country wants to return to the top of African football.
In search of national reconciliation, Côte d’Ivoire relies on this “Balle à terre” model to implement at the national level.
In the end, it is a masterstroke for a first attempt.
