Algeria U-17 snatched a vital 3-2 victory over Libya on Monday (January 18th, 2021) at the 5 July 1962 stadium in Algiers, in the opening match of the North African Football Union (UNAF) U-17 qualifying tournament for the Total U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2021.
Libya opened the score in the 29th minute via Abdel Sami Abdel Nabi, before Algeria equalized through Anis Oshwash after 39 minutes. In the second half, Algeria took the lead through Muhammad Rafiq Omar, but Libya team quickly restored parity when Djibril Notebire scored in his own net at the hour mark.
Yannis Lagha missed a penalty for Algeria in the 66th minute. As the match was heading towards a draw, Algeria snatched the victory when Djibril Notebire compensated for his mistake to score the winning goal four minutes from time.
Algeria leads the three-team tournament with 3 points. Tunisia faces Libya on Thursday, with the last game gathers Algeria and Tunisia on Sunday, January 24th.
