Nick Mwendwa has been handed a new four-year term as the Football Kenya Federation president after triumphing in Saturday’s elections. Mwendwa garnered a whooping 77 votes out of the 86 cast.
His closest competitor, former Gor Mahia Secretary General Lordvick Aduda managed five votes while former sports broadcaster Herbert Mwachiro got three.
Mwendwa expressed his happines be re-elected. “Most of the members are happy with the work that we have done for the last four years and I want to thank them for having faith in me to give me another four-year term. For us now, we want to take Kenyan football to the next level. FIFA World Cup is calling for us, whether it’s the men or the women’s. I feel we can get to one very soon. We need to raise the level of our clubs and national teams. The work ahead of us is not easy and we don’t want to go down from where we have come so far,” he said.
Meanwhile, retired referee Margaret Omondi beat Kerubo Momanyi by a single vote, managing 43 compared to Momamyi’s 42 to be elected as the women representative at the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Michael Ouma, Joseph Andere, Bernard Korir, Ahmed Qadar Mohamed Dabar, Davis Chege, Timothy Muriithi Nabea, Enos Kweya, David Bunei and Gabriel Mghendi complete the executive committee seats.
